Our first time to Villa del Palmar Cancun was as a couple, no kids, no friends, just us. It was our second time to Cancun, but first at this resort. This one was much better than the other one we stayed at with friends a few years ago. It was beautiful, less busy than the hotel zone, and the one bedroom suite had a full kitchen! I didn’t use it because we did all inclusive for this trip, and we LOVED room service. I ate banana splits in bed every night (don’t judge me). I didn’t have to share and it was fantastic.

FUN (LOW COST) THINGS TO DO

There was music by the pool, shows at night, activities throughout the day and plenty for us to do at the resort. My favorite self-care activity was yoga on the pier. All other yoga classes no longer compare to this experience.

We took the Punta Sam ferry (about 30 yards up the beach from the resort) over to Isla Mujeres and explored the island. There was so much to see, shopping, and restaurants available. We went with another couple from Canada that we met at the resort and rented a 4-person golf cart together. None of us were sure what there was on Isla Mujeres, but at the time, it cost all of $2 to ride over on the ferry (I believe that this price has gone up significantly in recent years) and seems to vary. There is a sculpture garden on the South end of Isla (Punta Sur) that we visited and got some pretty awesome pictures.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

This is our favorite resort in Cancun (so far) and we really like that it is out of the congested hotel zone. Watch out for vacation club offers, similar to other area resorts, but you can politely decline them. I also feel like the beaches in the Costa Mujeres area are calmer and nicer than other areas of Cancun. This was the only resort to the North, when we first visited. Now there are several lining the Costa Mujeres/Playa Mujeres side.

Ready for your own romantic getaway to Cancun? With direct flights from the Midwest, you can get there in 3.5 hours flat, stay 4-5 nights, and still have plenty of vacation time.

We are excited to visit our first MARGARITAVILLE RESORT in Riviera Maya this Summer and I can’t wait to tell you guys all about it 😎
